Stavros Valsamidis and his Museum of the Sea World

Stavros Valsamidis, "the Pocket Poseidon" as named by the UK DIVER Magazine, was born and grew up in the port of Kalymnos where he witnessed all the progress and history of Sponge Diving.

Being a keen collector from his  childhood, he managed to create an amazing collection of any kind of curiosity, connected with the sea and Kalymnos island history.
Various kinds of sponges, corals, shells, fish, strange sea creatures, sponge diving equipment, World War II findings, pictures, documents, coins, ancient amphora and even an ancient wreck, are included in his collection which he  exhibits in the "Valsamidis Sea World Museum" at Vlichadia.

 It is his pleasure to show them, to tell the story of every item and to point it's uniqueness and value. Don't miss a visit to it even if you've been there before. He is adding new staff every year!

Stavros owns and exhibits a live Museum too. It is the sea herself!

Being an adorer and deep expert of the sea bed, Stavros knows every stone, every corner, every cave, every creature of the sea bed.

He knows where to find the fish, the sponges, the wrecks, the unbeaten caves, the walls, the underwater canyons and everything interesting for a recreational diver, a naturalist, a scientist, an expert!

And he has a story for everything. The customs of sea bed creatures, the way they reproduce, the use of every sponge and shell, the story of every wreck, the stories of the pirates and contrabandist caves.

Diving with Stavros is a dive to knowledge and a turnover of the rumor that Greece does not have a reach sea bed ant that the best destinations for diving is the Red Sea and the exotic destinations.

Every time someone provokes him with pictures from exotic sea beds, Stavros laughs and says:
"What is this? This is nothing! We have a better sea bed here!" And he is able to prove it !!!
