Pothia : The capital and port of the island. Kalymnos island is located to the South Aegean Sea and belongs to the complex of islands known as the Dodecanese islands (12 islands), in which the islands Rhodes, Kos, Karpathos, Kassos, Kastelorizo, Tilos, Chalki, Simi, Nisyros, Astypalea, Leros, Patmos, Lipsi, Arki, Agathonisi, Marathi also belong.
These islands along with hundreds of smaller islands and islets comprise the Prefecture of Dodecanese. There is daily connection with most of Dodecanese islands along with Samos island, Piraeus and the Cyclades islands. Check our Transportation map for visual information !

Kalymnos island with it's inhabited islands Telendos and Pserimos , is the capital of Kalymnos Courthouse in which the islands of Astypalea, Leros, Patmos, Lipsi, Arki, Marathi and Agathonisi also belong. You can come to Kalymnos by airplane, hydrofoils, fast Catamaran, ferry boats, Seaplanes and chartered air taxis.

Coming to Kalymnos by boat and Seaplanes

There is daily connection with most of the Dodecanese islands with high speed boats http://www.12ne.gr/en/ along with Samos, Piraeus and Cyclades.

Seaplanes are new in Greece. They give another flavor on traveling. On 15 May 2007 they started their trips to Kalymnos connecting Kalymnos island with Mykonos island and Lavrion port in Athens. On August 2007 the stopped the scheduled flights but can still be chartered. You can get contact information at their website www.airsealines.com.

Coming by airplane directly to Kalymnos

Our airport (code JKL) is functioning since August 2006 with daily flights from Athens (ATH) with Olympic Airlines. The ticket is at about 150 Euro round trip !

Coming by airplane through Kos and other islands

Rhodes island International airport (RHO) and Kos island international airport (KGS), have Standard flights all year round and Charter & Low Cost flights from April to November and can be used to come to Kalymnos. Other islands airports (like Samos, Leros and Astypalea's) can be used too, but Kos airport is the closest and the best choice as it is very easily accessed from Kalymnos island trough Mastichari, a small port on Kos island which is only 8 miles away from Pothia the Kalymnos island port .
The trip Mastichari - Kalymnos lasts from 20-50 minutes. Trips start from 06:30 until 23:30 There are also ferries from the main port of Kos but the trip lasts more. Check our Mastichari Kos to Kalymnos island Ferry timetable
